Homeopathic remedies are prescribed by a professional, registered Homeopath according to the person’s individualised symptoms and their mental and emotional as well as physical symptoms.

How to treat a Panic Attack at Home

Firstly recognise you have a panic disorder, remind yourself that you are having a panic attack and, that you are physically OK and it will pass.

Then move to breath work, hyperventilating is a symptom of a panic attack so become aware of your breath and focus on slowing it down and breathing deeply and gently through your nose. Count from 1 to 4 on the in and out breaths and focus on deep, slow breathing.

Distraction can help by listening to music, singing or even humming can help you navigate your way through a panic attack.

Close your eyes, if you can, to cut down on environmental stimulation which may be triggering your panic attack.

Mindfulness grounds you, so focus on the present and reality. Dig your feet into the ground, touch your sleeve or face to place yourself in reality and to avoid the spiral into a panic attack. Look for an object to focus on instead like your watch or a piece of jewellery and describe the shape, colour, pattern etc. to yourself.

Picture your happy place. Guide your mind from anxiety and stress to a place where you have felt happy, calm and relaxed, like a beach, or a forest. Focus on the sensory details of that place e.g. the smell of the sea, the touch of the breeze on your face, the noise of the waves and texture of the sand between your toes.

Lavender can help reduce stress and can help you relax, perhaps you can keep a spray to hand to spritz when you are feeling anxiety like at social events, public speaking, driving, meetings etc.

Repeat a mantra either externally or internally like “this too shall pass” or “I am conquering my fears and becoming stronger each day.”

How to treat anxiety naturally (without medication)

You can naturally heal anxiety and treat your anxiety attacks holistically by improving your lifestyle. By prioritising your sleep, meditation or breath work, exercise and eating a balanced diet you can help ease your anxiety.

Increase your activity and enjoy regular exercise to help you enhance your concentration improve yourself physically, and also mentally and emotionally by increasing the production of serotonin.

Reduce anxiety and stress by getting a good night’s sleep, no devices in the bedroom, keep your room cool and dark, wear comfy clothes and write down your worries before you go to sleep.

Practice regular mindfulness / meditation to help you develop a sense of calm and contentment.

Eat a balanced diet, low in chemical additives and high sugar which can affect your mood. Avoid processed food and instead eat a rainbow of fruit, veggies, salads as well as quality protein and complex carbohydrates.

Limit caffeine to maximum 3 cups a day as it can make you feel jittery and nervous by altering the brain chemistry.

Instead drink a cup or two of Chamomile tea to calm you and promote a good night’s sleep.

Daily breath work can help heal, when you experience anxiety you can start to breath in a shallow and fast way which makes the anxiety worse this can lead to a panic attack. To restore normal breathing patterns use breath work.

Avoid alcohol, as it can interfere with neurotransmitters that are responsible for your mental health, it can also disrupt sleep.

Stop smoking it can alter pathways in the brain linked to anxiety.

Do what brings you joy! Every day spend even a few minutes doing what you sparks joy in you. It could be dancing, sports, reading, writing, gardening, knitting, art, puzzles etc.
